Down To Earth By Summer

The Florida Keys!

Not only is it a vacation destination, offering a warm respite for seasonal snowbirds ~ but it’s also a unique place where we strive to maintain a delicate balance between our human occupancy and the incredible nature that surrounds us.

The Keys are known for the only living coral reef in the continental United States, and people flock yearly to explore this increasingly endangered rarity that sits off our Atlantic shore. One can’t be a part of such awe-inspiring surroundings and not be aware of the precious gift that has been bestowed upon us. Enveloped in such beauty tends to tune you into nature’s fragility ~ and that which threatens our natural world.

It is with this appreciation, admiration and concern for this gift that we offer many of our unique products. We feature a wonderful selection of Laville frames made from recycled tin and wood, reclaimed from old southern homes. And our selection of cutting boards are made from the more abundant bamboo instead of maple. We prefer natural and handmade home furnishings. But we also carry other manufactured products that fit the essence of the laid back, Florida Keys lifestyle.

See ~ living here in the Florida Keys, we never really pack away our patio, deck and summer supplies at season’s end like most ~ unless a hurricane threatens! We enjoy temperate weather here most days of the year. Admittedly, we enjoy an occasional cool front ~ especially around the holidays ~ but it’s usually just a matter of days before we’re back outdoors soaking’ up the sun!

So ~ if you ever find yourself escaping the frigid climes of the north, or on a summer road trip that ventures down south our way, we hope you’ll stop in to visit us.

No real directions are needed ~ US 1 is pretty much the only road in and out of the Keys and runs the full 100 plus miles to Key West. Finding most any place along the way is just a matter of knowing the mile marker. That’s what the M.M. in our address refers to ~ we are at Mile Marker 82.2 ~ that means we’re 82.2 miles from the end of US 1 at the southernmost point of the United States in Key West.

Yes, life is pretty much that simple here in the Florida Keys ~ or perhaps we should say ~ down to earth.

Oh, and about summer ~ it does work as part our name in that it’s summer-like most of the year ~ but Down to Earth is owned by Summer!
